LCG AlpSNOW

New possibilities
for the winter season.

LCG AlpSNOW is being developed as a mobile, modular surface system for selected winter and snow-sports areas. It targets areas that are particularly important to day-to-day operations: practice slopes, ski-school areas, connecting routes and areas around lower lift stations.

The aim is to extend the usability of these areas and reduce their snowmaking requirements. Temperature behaviour, practical suitability and the potential for additional operating days are to be investigated with operators on clearly defined pilot areas.

Assess season potential

Trials will focus on additional operating periods and a more dependable experience for guests.

Keep resources in focus

Water, energy and maintenance requirements will be compared with current operations.

Test step by step

A limited test area designed for removal provides a basis for deciding whether to expand.

Knowledge & facts

How snow, climate and surfaces interact.

Long-term trends explain the need for adaptation. Performance on an individual site has to be measured locally.

A closer look

Why is air temperature alone not enough?

Snow conditions also depend on precipitation, wind, slope and aspect. Natural snow responds differently across regions and elevations, so one temperature reading cannot describe a whole season.

What does albedo mean?

Albedo is the share of incoming sunlight reflected by a surface. It is one part of the surface energy balance. AlpSNOW also requires testing of material behaviour, loading and maintenance under real conditions.

What should an AlpSNOW pilot measure?

Useful measures include operating days, glide and braking behaviour, surface temperature, and water, energy and maintenance needs. A comparable reference area helps distinguish weather effects from system effects. Season extension and savings are development objectives.

For prospective pilot partners

Your site. A shared trial.

We welcome discussions with lift operators, ski resorts, ski schools, hotels, resorts and tourism municipalities. Potential applications range from beginner and training areas to connecting routes and selected resort and recreation areas.

For an initial discussion, simply share the location, approximate area, current use and main operational challenge.

  1. 01

    Understand the site

Review the use, terrain, climate and operational requirements together.

  2. 02

    Agree the pilot project

Define the test area, required assessments, responsibilities and measurable objectives.

  3. 03

    Evaluate the results

Assess usability, temperature behaviour, resource requirements and economic viability.

People at the heart of it

Enjoy winter together.

First turns, shared ski days and time in the mountains: AlpSNOW aims to create opportunities where usable practice areas and connecting routes matter most to guests and operators.
